Artist Statement

Rooted in my experience as a stone carving sculptor, I engage with strata as an active and lively materiality. My current practice jumps between photography, performance,16mm film, embroidery and drawing.

Plants facilitate the photochemical developing process in the darkroom as images of
rocks, boulders, and stonewalls emerge. Simultaneously, blobs and swirling veils on the silver gelatine prints archive the volatile mineral processes of the analogue film emulsion.

In my performances, I work with touch, as I feel the weight and textures of rocks directly on my body or as part of a costume. I am curious about the physical impact and impressions of boundaries and the potential of intimacy between humans and strata.

I see my 16mm films as visual poems, anchored in liminal places of geology, where scars of extraction and traces of care are visible.

I invite viewers of my work to step into multiple layers of visual and sensorial voices.

My wish is to offer an alternative way of sensing the narratives of deep time below our feet, challenging the hierarchy of the animate-inanimate divide and exploring ways how to participate in our volatile times of climate breakdown through an ecology of care that considers ethics when engaging with strata.
